The analog megohmmeter for high voltage has adjustable voltage of 100, 250 V, 500 V, 1000 V (according to EN 61 557 parts 1) and 1500 V, 2000 V, 2500 V, 5000 V.This megohmmeter is used as standard for testing insulation resistance / breakdown of electrical conductors (on machines, transformers, cables and electrical institutions for example, locomotives, trams, marine vessels).
Similarly, it can also for testing insulator plates, composite based materials and plastic sheets for insulation resistance, showingrespective electrical conductivity of various materials used. The maximum insulation resistance can be read on the analog display. By means of voltage measuring ranges the zero potential of test objects in networks up to 2 kV can be determined. This is important for insulation resistance measurement, because interference voltages distort the measurement results.
Capacitive devices under test such ascables and coils, which may be charged by the test voltage, are discharged by the meter. The drop in voltage can be directly observed by the pointer on the meter.
The highly insulated test leads are connected securelyfor security and measurement reasons. Danger resulting from an inadvertently disconnected cable is avoided, for example, when charging occurs through capacitive test objects.
